Bowenwork is an effective style of bodywork that addresses the body in a subtle way to activate its own healing mechanisms. 

What happens during a session?

 When you arrive for your first appointment you will be asked to complete paperwork and we will have a short interview about your reason for the visit.  You will then lie, fully clothed on a comfortable table on your stomach first.  Your practitioner will perform a series of moves over your muscles, tendons or nerves.  Your practitioner will then leave the room for at least two minutes to allow your body time to process the movements.  This process is repeated until the session is completed.  Your comfort is very important to us, so please let us know if there is anything you need.  You may become very relaxed and fall asleep during the session.  Allow 90 minutes for your first session and an hour for each following appointment. 

What you need for your appointment

Please arrive to your appointment wearing loose fitting, comfortable clothing.  Please avoid wearing denim as all the work will be performed over your clothing.  Be sure to drink ample water prior to your appointment so you are well hydrated. 

How many sessions will I need?

Generally, 3-5 sessions one week apart will be sufficient to address most concerns.  Some conditions will need more sessions to effectively address the situation.  Some clients choose to receive regular "tune ups" or maintenance sessions to keep them feeling great.  These sessions can be scheduled once a month or less frequent depending on your needs. 

What happens after a session?

After a session, your body continues to respond for up to 10 days unless interrupted by injury or strong external stimulation.  To ensure you receive the greatest benefit from your session, we recommend you do the following:

• Drink plenty of water.
• Walk every 30 minutes throughout the day to avoid long periods of sitting.
• If another session is indicated, schedule it within one week. 
• Allow your body to rest within 24 hours of your appointment.
• Avoid heavy exertion and strenuous exercise.
• Avoid other types of massage, physical therapy, chiropractic, etc to allow your body to receive the maximum benefit from your session.
